Club Senior Nordstad, Luxembourg, the non-profit association: "ASBL Club Senior Nordstad" was created in 1990 to lead a day-centre for elderly people, depending help during the day.

In 2001 a Club Senior was built as an additional service to offer different activities for seniors up to 50+. It is settled in a development region around Ettelbruck and Diekirch with foreign minority populations (Portuguese, Italian, French, Belgian, German and Dutch). Club Senior Nordstad’s concept is: create, organize and realize activities for seniors 50+. Those people are all independent, living in their own homes or apartments, some of them are retired, others are still working, a lot of them live alone. They all have different interests and abilities and we try to discover their needs and care about their vitality and activity.

We organize activities like: trips and journeys, lifelong learning and culture, sports, consulting and information, healthiness and wellness, sociability, creativity and new technologies. To avoid isolation we provide opportunities for social contacts, health prevention by activation and information, integration, encouragement of volunteers and intergenerational dialogue.

With this new project we would like to reach out to young people who could learn from the senior people and vice versa. We want to help the elderly and the younger people to come closer, to lose their doubts and their basic fears and to learn from each other. All our courses and activities are also open for younger people, if there are free places. But the younger participants have to respect the senior learners and to adapt on their needs. So in mixed age groups all participants also learn some social skills.

People up to 50+ are interested in learning languages, but they don’t want to learn with high speed. It is necessary to teach slowly and to repeat regularly. It is not necessary to make examinations. People up to 50+ want to learn without stress, with a lot of practice and without testing at the end of the course. We like to work together with our neighbour association the regional youth house “Jugendhaus Nordstad” and we want to integrate young migrants in our activities.

Our particular role in this project, besides the common ones for all, will be to cooperate with the coordinator in view of establishing and determining the discovered learning-teaching strategies for the 50s and over age groups as compared to those of the younger age groups.
